Want to work at Spongedrop? We're a fun-loving, hard-working team who love what we do. We currently have two roles available: a Cafe/FOH Manager and a full-time Barista, these jobs are listed below. We’re also always interested in hearing from bakers so if you’re a talented cake lover like us please drop us a line! Dani x

Enthusiastic, detail-oriented and passionate manager wanted!

Spongedrop Cakery is a renowned cafe and cakery in the heart of Mount Maunganui, where we create beautiful cakes, cupcakes, macarons and desserts (and the best damn cheese scones in the country).  Our crew is super-proud to bring people joy, both through our cakes and our famous amazing service. But our Cafe Manager is off on her OE, so now we need a new superstar!

Your main responsibilities will be:

  • Daily management of the cafe, including FOH duties, customer service and staff management

  • Administration - this includes processing and co-ordinating all orders and enquiries

  • Building and maintaining customer relationships

We need someone who is responsible, reliable and a self-starter. We’ve worked hard to create a warm, inclusive atmosphere at Spongedrop so it's vital that you are all about genuine, engaging and attentive customer service. You'll be confident, friendly and positive with the ability to adapt to different situations, use your initiative and take control.

Excellent organisational skills are a must, as you will be managing multiple orders, schedules, communication channels and enquiries - including our VIP wedding clients. This is a key role within the business, working alongside the owner and manager (aren’t they the manager? I’m confused… if this means you, just say owner).

Essential experience and skills:

  • Hospitality/cafe experience

  • Administrative/management experience

  • Very strong communication and people skills

  • Confidence using Mac programmes including Mail, Pages, Numbers

  • High level of attention to detail (there are many things to juggle!)

  • Ability to multi-task

  • Appreciation for organisation, systems and processes

Barista skills are a bonus, but we can train you if you have everything else we need. Flexibility is a must as your responsibilities will be varied. We are a small team of dedicated, fun-loving people who love what we do. We're hard workers and expect the same from our peers - but no doubt you’re the same, too. This is a full-time position, five days per week (varying Tues-Sun).

If you have the skills (to pay the bills!) and think we sound like your jam, please email your CV and a cover letter introducing yourself (let your realest self shine!) to using the subject line MANAGER. Applications close 5pm, June 2, 2019. You can also drop this into the store! x

We are looking for an experienced, dedicated barista to join the front-of-house team. This is a full-time position that requires someone who is responsible, reliable, and committed to providing exceptional customer service and producing consistently great coffee.

You'll be bright, bubbly, energetic and take great pride in what you do - in particular the coffee you produce! We work with Coffee Supreme and have built up a great reputation for the quality of our coffee so a genuine passion for the product, the process and its presentation is essential. Your attention to detail and ability to go above and beyond will help to make our customer’s experience with us a great one!

Flexibility is required as the responsibilities are varied and include; opening and closing the cafe, serving customers and dealing with special requests, coffee & beverage making, general cafe duties and cashing up. You may also be asked to help out with catering/kitchen duties on occasion.

If successful you’ll join a small, dedicated, fun-loving and friendly team in a cute seaside location. This is a full-time position, approx 35-40 hours, 5 days per week (varying Tues - Sun with one weekend day off a week).

Only applicants with at least one year full-time barista experience will be considered.

Sound like you? Please apply with both a CV and cover letter telling us about yourself to using BARISTA as the subject line. The more personality you show the better! Applications close 5pm, June 2, 2019. You can also drop this into the store! x
